Best places to Ski in Europe 2019
We asked former British Alpine Ski team couple and CDC Performance Founders, Chemmy Alcott and Dougie Crawford, about best Ski resorts to visit in 2019.
France:
“Tignes” - Best for guaranteed snow and late/early season. With awesome activities for kids and families. Has everything skiing wise - great pistes and off piste.
“Flaine - Super easy to get to, pretty high, great for families but a bit ugly!
“St Foy” - Lesser known and lesser skied than Val D'Isere and Tignes but gets awesome snow and can be one of the best for powder days!
“Chamonix” - So close to Geneva airport, epic terrain and views, some of the best off piste in the world, great partying but not so beginner friendly and a bit disjointed.
Switzerland:
“Verbier” - Awesome combination of fur and gore tex - plenty glamour and fancy restaurants but some serious skiing and off piste! Good Apres- but super expensive.
“Zinal” - We use it for training- it has some of the best race pistes around for training but it is also a hidden gem for off piste- loads of terrain and much quieter than the usual off piste spots- so more fresh tracks for longer!
Austria:
“St Anton” - Probably the best apres ski place around and with awesome skiing backing it up.
“Saalbach Hinterglemm” - A place where we used to race train regularly but also had some of my best powder days there! Great terrain, nice hotels and good Apres.
Sweden:
“Are” - Something pretty different to the Alps and a truly magical place with pink snow with the long sunsets and sunrises.
Italy:
“Cortina D'Ampezzo” - Beautiful Dolomite destination, amazing food, we took Locki there at 2 weeks old and was magical with the friendly Italians.
“Courmayeur” - Amazing new high-tech lifts, coupled with some of the best food around and beautiful views of Mont Blanc. And, access to the infamous “Valley Blanche”!
About CDC Performance:
World Class Coaching delivered by 4 Time Winter Olympian Chemmy Alcott and 25 Time British Champion Dougie Crawford. Changing the way the world thinks about sport. Sport isn't just about winning or losing it's an imperative journey teaching you skills to deal with the roller coaster ride of life.
“Being in an environment where I have been on the receiving end of multiple different techniques and nationality of coaches over 25 years, I am continuously reflecting on what worked and what didn't and trying to implement that into how I coach myself. As well as learning through BASI the fundamental elements of how to ski, working with my mentor Neil Burns, London County Mentoring, on how best to bring out others performance and hosting environments that enable optimum personal development, I aim to be a sponge and absorb a huge variety of techniques and learning skills to help better represent CDC Performance and its values.
Chemmy Alcott, Co-Founder, CDC Performance
“Having had a mixture of doing my own skis, working with technicians, and also working with DataWax I have developed a complete understanding about ski tuning and waxing. I’ve had major disappointments in my career of missing out on the Olympics by the narrowest of margins and through injury. Because of this I have spent a lot of time researching psychology as well as working with some top sports psychologists discovering a huge amount about how to get the best out of people. I believe I can bring these skills to help young athletes ski better and faster and also develop them as human beings- ready to take on the world!”
